FAQ

Questions, answered

The short version: free for health workers, US$3 per booked shift for employers, and everyone verified. The long version is below.

About MedSkift

Where is MedSkift available?

MedSkift is launching in Zimbabwe. Employers anywhere in the country can post shifts, from Harare and Bulawayo to towns in every province, and rates are shown in US dollars.

Is there a mobile app?

Yes. The MedSkift app for Android and iPhone is on its way to the app stores. Until then everything works in your phone’s browser at medskift.com.

How is my personal information protected?

Your data is handled under Zimbabwe’s Cyber and Data Protection Act. Identity images stay with our verification partner and are not stored by MedSkift, documents are kept in private storage and opened only through short-lived links, and contact details are shared only once a shift is booked.

For health workers

Do health workers pay anything to use MedSkift?

No. MedSkift is free for health workers: no sign-up fee, no subscription and no commission on your pay. Employers pay a flat booking fee when they book a shift.

How do I get paid for a shift?

The rate is shown on every shift before you apply, per hour or per shift. Your employer pays you directly, the way you agree with them. MedSkift never handles or deducts anything from your wages.

What do I need to get verified?

A quick identity check with your national ID or passport and a selfie, done through our partner Didit. For licensed professions you also add your council registration number and current practising certificate. Caregivers and nurse aides add a qualification and a police clearance.

Who checks my documents?

A member of the MedSkift verification team reviews every document by hand and checks registration numbers against the relevant council, such as the Nurses Council of Zimbabwe or the Health Professions Authority. You get a notification as soon as a decision is made.

What happens if I cannot make a shift?

Cancel in the app as early as you can so the employer can find someone else. Cancelling less than 24 hours before the start, or not turning up, counts as a strike. Three strikes within 90 days pauses new applications until our team has reviewed your account.

For employers

How much does MedSkift cost for employers?

US$3 per booked shift, taken from your prepaid credit when you accept an applicant. Posting shifts, receiving applications and messaging applicants are free. There is no subscription.

How do I pay for credit?

Top up your wallet through Linkwa’s secure checkout with EcoCash, InnBucks, OneMoney, Omari, SmileCash, Visa or Mastercard. Credit appears as soon as the payment is confirmed and every top-up has a receipt.

Can I get my credit back as cash?

No. Credit is prepaid and can only be used for booking fees on MedSkift. Booking fees that qualify for a refund go back into your credit, never out as cash.

What if the health worker cancels or does not turn up?

Your US$3 comes back to your credit automatically when a worker cancels, and when you report a no-show within 24 hours of the shift start. If you cancel yourself at least 24 hours before the start, the fee is refunded too; closer to the start it is kept.

Can families hire a caregiver through MedSkift?

Yes. Individuals and families sign up as employers without company documents. You only need to verify your identity before posting, and your home address stays hidden from applicants until you book someone.

Who pays the health worker’s wages?

You do, directly. The rate you set is shown on the shift and agreed when you book. MedSkift only charges the booking fee and is not the employer of the health worker.
